Brooke Parker Walker, daughter of author Dee Dee Parker, was the inspiration behind the Josie Jo’s Got to Know book project.

At 30, Brooke was diagnosed with advanced Stage IV Breast Cancer. She was told she had just six months to live, but astounded doctors by surviving four full and happy years.

During that time, Brooke reached out to other patients in many ways including a joint endeavor with local knitters to furnish soft, warm caps -- Brooke’s Bonnets -- to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

Brooke appeared on television and radio, and at book signings and fundraising events where she shared her inspirational message of hope. Brooke said she was blessed with support from family and friends; she was amazed by the goodness of people she met on her journey. She celebrated and cherished each new day.

Through the selling of this book, her mother hopes to carry on Brooke’s wish to raise awareness of breast cancer by early detection, especially in younger women.
